Get into the ring! How this works...

This is easy! Each week on Thursday I post my homily idea...my main focus for preaching this coming Sunday. What I am hoping for is a reaction from people in the pews. Does my "focus" connect with your daily life, faith, and experience? Or not? Either affirm the direction I am going in (by giving me an example from your life) or challenge me, ask for clarification! Questions are the best! Reaction rather than reflection is what I'm looking for here. Don't be afraid, get in the ring. Ole!

-scriptures for Sunday are at USCCB.org

Lay down Your Cloak

One of my favorite scriptures in all of the bible is from chapter 3 of the Letter to the Colossians(former translation): "Because you are God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with heartfelt mercy...."

A friend reminded me that this Holy Week, the passion will invite us to throw our cloaks and palms before the Lord. One of the fathers of the church encouraged us to see our lives, our virtues, our selves down in sacrifice and support of Jesus.

In fact, what aspect of your life and mine does Jesus require that we lay down? This Holy Week would be the time to lay down that article of clothing, that garment, as we approach the Lord's Passion.

I had not considered this aspect but it is a beautiful way to begin Holy Week with laying down one area of my life that I have been reluctant or unable to trust God with. In my case it is a why, an understanding of a situation, and trusting that God has a plan, that I am unable to release into His hands so the beautiful analogy of the palms being laid down before my Lord and Savior may help me to release this to the Father.

The passing of Jesus from human to divine is what we call the Paschal Mystery. We enjoy participating in this Mystery and often our desire is to transform ourselves by dismantling our False-Self ( self that we develop in our own likeness)and becoming closer to the image of God (True-Self).
Particularly this Lent has been a time of very dry prayer for me, too many things going on at the same time. The Little Rock Scripture study has helped me to come back to the love of Jesus and the realization that it is Lent. It is time for resting in God's Presence in silence and solitude time to reflect in who really I am and what I want to become to be more Christ like.
My Bible group at St. Albert gave me the spark needed to start a new fire in my heart, that love's fire is going to help me to lay down at the feet of the cross a couple of aspects of my false-self that need to be dismantle.
Prayer and Holy Spirit help is going to allow me to experience Christ rising... something has to give away in order to build something new. A new me!
