Get into the ring! How this works...

This is easy! Each week on Thursday I post my homily idea...my main focus for preaching this coming Sunday. What I am hoping for is a reaction from people in the pews. Does my "focus" connect with your daily life, faith, and experience? Or not? Either affirm the direction I am going in (by giving me an example from your life) or challenge me, ask for clarification! Questions are the best! Reaction rather than reflection is what I'm looking for here. Don't be afraid, get in the ring. Ole!

I like the challenge to think about the "New". It's a reminder to me of God as creator - and God ALWAYS creating.

In considering "how life will be with God" and "is there a newness in my future with God", I was drawn to thinking about those times in my life when I have been challenged by that. Times that I have been consumed by loss - or something dying in my life. Those are the times when I am tempted to get stuck in sadness and fear that death and loss have the last word. Those are the times I have difficulty with vision.

But really, in considering the Matador's reflection, I am reminded that it is precisely then when I most have the opportunity to see that God is at work with a new vision of life with me.

In thinking about this, a scene from Mel Gibson's film, "The Passion", came to mind. One of the times Jesus fell, Mary came running to him and he said to her “See, mother, I make all things new.” There, in the midst of suffering and dying, Jesus sees new life – he sees and believes in a newness in life with God. That is the kind of “vision” I am understanding in the Matador’s reflection today. I appreciate being invited to renew my commitment to embracing this call of participating in the constant creating hand of God in my life.

Beautiful Father. I love this idea.

When I read our Holy Father's "Gospel of Joy" a couple of days ago, I thought of how wonderful a reflection for Advent this is; 'newness', as I felt a beautiful touch from the Holy Spirit. Then hearing your words, echoing the very same theme, reiterated in my heart this message of 'newness' from God's own calling to me.

When I start to become complacent in my life and think this is the best it will be, I contemplate on the reality that God has so many different and new and exciting "mansions" in Heaven for us; and as Heaven; the Kingdom, begins here on earth, I feel as though God goes so far beyond our thought of: 'this is the way it is to be'. Even in our religious ways of thinking sometimes we think that this is the way it is and there is no newness, no freshness, no excitement left, but then God shows us His greatness in going beyond even our imagination. WOW.
