Get into the ring! How this works...
This is easy! Each week on Thursday I post my homily idea...my main focus for preaching this coming Sunday. What I am hoping for is a reaction from people in the pews. Does my "focus" connect with your daily life, faith, and experience? Or not? Either affirm the direction I am going in (by giving me an example from your life) or challenge me, ask for clarification! Questions are the best! Reaction rather than reflection is what I'm looking for here. Don't be afraid, get in the ring. Ole!

I do understand what you - and Pope Francis - are saying, and what it means to not be living life that reflects belief in the resurrected Christ. I think what makes the difference - where we see evidence of belief in the risen Christ - is when we see evidence of loving. I recently re-read parts of Mother Teresa's Secret Fire, and I was struck again with her focus on love - Christ's love for us, His thirst for us, and His passionate desire for us to thirst for Him. She shows us that the only way to relieve His thirst is to spend time in prayer -in union with Him; and then by reaching out to others (particularly in their suffering), loving them and bringing them to Him through that love. While most people first think of her good works when they think of Mother Teresa, I am learning as I get to know her that it is really her understanding and wellspring of Christ's love that sets her apart; and her works flowed from that love.
One of her quotes that has had new impact on me is "If I ever become a saint - I will surely be one of 'darkness.' I will continually be absent from heaven - to light the light of those in darkness on earth." Only love can lead a person to say and do such things - and that love is exactly the presence of the risen Christ, and the willingness to be a temple of it.
