Get into the ring! How this works...

This is easy! Each week on Thursday I post my homily idea...my main focus for preaching this coming Sunday. What I am hoping for is a reaction from people in the pews. Does my "focus" connect with your daily life, faith, and experience? Or not? Either affirm the direction I am going in (by giving me an example from your life) or challenge me, ask for clarification! Questions are the best! Reaction rather than reflection is what I'm looking for here. Don't be afraid, get in the ring. Ole!

my 1st thought is that it is more a matter of doing the right thing versus that of being right or being wrong.

As it relates to the Sermon on the Mount, I think God is pretty clear about what that is.

Thinking on that a little, it kinda falls into the Faith and Works thing.

i don't know, this world, the 'ol saying of "knowledge is power" - well, does that not fall into sequence somewhere with this?

my thought is that it is more of what one does with what one knows, than what one knows. This must apply to all aspects of one's life. There can be no duplicity mostly because when one is striving for deeper relationship with God, He is the one who does the revealing.

We are only perfect in God's eyes because we were made for His purpose alone. I believe to seek Him with a true heart is when one sees how nothing we are without Him. And that's what i think He means when He says, "Be perfect, as your Heavenly Father is perfect."

oh boy, does that make sense?

Your reflection prompts me to think about how it is that I define - or should define - being "right". I liked your suggestion of thinking of it as being "right with God".

In line with the thinking of Anonymous above, I am considering that the "right" I need to concern myself with isn't as much the knowledge in a particular instance. Of great consequence is how I treat and react to the others around me in that same instance. For example, after the dust settles from a disagreement with someone - what will remain important isn't so much WHO had the "accurate" information, but also the state of "unity" between us.

The tension in all of this, however, is that "truth" is vital - so I can't "lie" just so as to keep a friend! I am seeing righteousness as including love in its fullest sense - truth along with the sacrifice of oneself for the sake of the other all mixed up together.

i had to listen again - and,

to be honest, i really dont think i fully know or understand what righteousness means. What I do hear in your statement regarding being right or being attached to be right is just simply pride. Pride would interfere because it's about one's own self. It is not Love.

I mean, really, who cares about WHO is right (or wrong) don't we all want the truth? Afterall Jesus is the truth, yes?
