Get into the ring! How this works...

This is easy! Each week on Thursday I post my homily idea...my main focus for preaching this coming Sunday. What I am hoping for is a reaction from people in the pews. Does my "focus" connect with your daily life, faith, and experience? Or not? Either affirm the direction I am going in (by giving me an example from your life) or challenge me, ask for clarification! Questions are the best! Reaction rather than reflection is what I'm looking for here. Don't be afraid, get in the ring. Ole!

Holy Week?  Holy Spirit? Holy Catholic Church?

I do see the connection that the Matador gives of our lives being affected by the power of the Holy Spirit AND as members of the Catholic Church. Without that life in the Spirit I/we would live in isolation and would miss entirely the full life we are offered by living, instead, as members of a body. So much more can be accomplished when we go at it together, and so much fuller can life be when we embark on its journey as a member of something more than our own solitary lives. It takes sacrifice on our part - to give up the pursuit of life for the sake of our own interests; but the end result is so much greater and full of the kind of life we could never accomplish on our own. It seems to me that it is in taking that approach to life that the Spirit can really be at work - making life into something incredible that is well beyond our own doing.

The only we to be edified in the spirit is through participation within the liturgy and consumation of the eucharist. If we give of ourselves during the mass, then Jesus will sustain us as we go out into the world. Our light will shine brightly even when we don't have the words to share our faith. We will often be preaching the gospel, completely unaware as Jesus is actually the one preaching through us.

Without the mass and the eucharist, we are just empty lanterns swinging in the dark. With them, we are bright, vibrant beacons leading the path for those searching for the light.

At least that's how I see it.
