Get into the ring! How this works...

This is easy! Each week on Thursday I post my homily idea...my main focus for preaching this coming Sunday. What I am hoping for is a reaction from people in the pews. Does my "focus" connect with your daily life, faith, and experience? Or not? Either affirm the direction I am going in (by giving me an example from your life) or challenge me, ask for clarification! Questions are the best! Reaction rather than reflection is what I'm looking for here. Don't be afraid, get in the ring. Ole!

Forgive or Forget it! #7

This reflection is a helpful reminder of what role our emotions play in our lives and how they're meant to be interpreted. In this fast-paced world that is also full of encouragement to focus on self, it can be easy to get caught up in emotions and to let them serve as more than what they are.

What you describe here strikes me as a "discipline" - that we need to remind ourselves to revisit (perhaps even renew) the intellectual forgiveness that we had accomplished and, as you say, allow the light of that to illumine and warm the glacial melting. Great analogy!

I agree with Anon 1, this return to reminding is a most gentle and kind way to guide one's heart to healing. This message is of God's Love.

Could the emotional aspect be a reflection of conscience? As Fr says, being in right relationship with one's own self. That would definitely have potential of revealing a truth about one's own self, one's relationship with God, and where God's touch of healing may be found. That's where the suffering Love comes in, yes? The truth God reveals about and to the one can be very painful and humbling, however, in time, most rewarding.

It's not about the feeling. It's about relationship with God, spiritual growth. It is a most selfless thing. Discouragement is a distraction from the Love that is forgiveness, and the evil one surely will grab onto that. I mean, one would have to forget about any of their own feelings, and I think, that would mean letting that part of one's self go, letting it die, and be filled with God who is Love.

This reminds me of: "If you're going through Hell, keep going".

So many times when I read/hear these posts I think, "Duh, of course, how simple!" And I appreciate your constant encouragement to keep at it.

They key thing that struck me with this is how all good things take time. Getting an education, building a home, growing a family, friendships, marriage relationships, etc., all good things take time! Anything worth obtaining takes time. Maybe it's our culture, maybe it's me, but I keep forgetting, so again your encouragement is invaluable! I think of the beginning of Teresa of Avila's motto, "Patience obtains all things."

I like your explanation of reading the signs of emotions accurately. Again, taking the time to think it through.
