This is easy! Each week on Thursday I post my homily idea...my main focus for preaching this coming Sunday. What I am hoping for is a reaction from people in the pews. Does my "focus" connect with your daily life, faith, and experience? Or not? Either affirm the direction I am going in (by giving me an example from your life) or challenge me, ask for clarification! Questions are the best! Reaction rather than reflection is what I'm looking for here. Don't be afraid, get in the ring. Ole!

Forgive or Forget it #5: What Forgiveness is Not

God is Love and there is no Love in unforgiveness. I think when the opportunity to forgive presents itself, it's God asking us to make our free will choice to cooperate, to participate in His purpose for our life.
Mat 12:30 "He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters."
Getting even? Geez. I've never thought of it that way, but how true. Getting even is loaded with anger, hate, bitterness, etc., anything but allowing one's self to be open to HIS Grace to live our Christian Faith.
God wants the broken hearted. HIS lessons are painful, but only because of our defiance. Forgiveness brings us closer to HIM, helps us prevent putting anything before HIM deepening our relationship with Jesus.
Always choose Love. And no, it's not easy, but it is what HE asks of us, and HE loves us so much he allows us to make a choice... incomprehensible.

You mentioned that we are allowed to ask for clarification when your homily idea is in some way difficult for us to grasp.
I am having difficulty with one point you mentioned. Namely, that forgiveness is not putting ourselves in a vulnerable situation.
I'm having difficulty with seeing this. Mainly, because true love is always vulnerable. As Christians we are always being vulnerable to Christ's love no matter how many times we are hurt by being submissive to His love.
Also, like a man and women who have a deep, committed loving bond with each other who continually being submissively vulnerable to each other even after being hurt by the other, in order to keep the beauty of their deep love, their total giving of one to the other.
Perhaps I am looking too deeply and just missing your point.(?)
I would love for your thoughts on this. Am I missing your point(?). Thanks so much Father.
