Get into the ring! How this works...

This is easy! Each week on Thursday I post my homily idea...my main focus for preaching this coming Sunday. What I am hoping for is a reaction from people in the pews. Does my "focus" connect with your daily life, faith, and experience? Or not? Either affirm the direction I am going in (by giving me an example from your life) or challenge me, ask for clarification! Questions are the best! Reaction rather than reflection is what I'm looking for here. Don't be afraid, get in the ring. Ole!

What is Your Greater Sin?

The sin of the rich man is not richnesss, it is not lack of charity, idolatry, blasphemy, adultery, murder, or any of the commandments. It was blindness.  Pucillanimous indifferencee. Small souled self absorbed lack of empathy.

Got any of that?

My dad used that word a lot.

Long has been my request to my spouse, please, please, tell me if I can do or say anything better or differently ... No way, for the most part my guy is of the heart 'love bears all things'. Intuitively I know my blindness, so I was forever pleading, 'Jesus, son of David, have pity on me, I want to see.' And I realize now that both and all is God's Love and Mercy.

Pusillanimous? I don't even know if I haven't spelled right :-)

What are the odds - I just read something from Robert Barron yesterday and he used the term pusilla anima (little soul) to refer to the times that we are wrapped up in our own egos and pathetic fears. He was comparing this to the holy lives of saints and they live knowing that they participate in something and Someone infinitely greater than themselves - the magna anima (great soul).

On an exciting note - it means opening ourselves up to living in the Mystery - and surrendering to it. On the challenging side - it means coming to grips with the fact that this life really isn't about "me".

My dad used pusillanimous with the word parvenu. Go figure. A cowardly upstart or social climber.
