Get into the ring! How this works...

This is easy! Each week on Thursday I post my homily idea...my main focus for preaching this coming Sunday. What I am hoping for is a reaction from people in the pews. Does my "focus" connect with your daily life, faith, and experience? Or not? Either affirm the direction I am going in (by giving me an example from your life) or challenge me, ask for clarification! Questions are the best! Reaction rather than reflection is what I'm looking for here. Don't be afraid, get in the ring. Ole!

How Free are You to Love?

I'm thinking most of us are under lock and key in the self referential dungeon! How about you?

Am I free to do the good, the right, the true, the loving. Am I free in every relationship, in every interaction to do the loving that the moment requires, calls for. GREAT conscience-stirring questions, I think EVERYONE can come up with SOMETHING that needs work.

My memory, however, was confusing me, making the good, the right, the true, the loving confusing. I thought if I remembered something from the past that had happened with people that I was NOT loving, that this was impeding my giving, my loving. However, I realize I would have dinner with these so-called "enemies", it's just that I wouldn't necessarily go on vacation with them.

I think this is a great reflection on the truth of loving - and challenges us to take a look at what happens when, rather than love ruling our lives, we succomb to self-centeredness. Just as with the Good Samaritan, when love takes ahold of us we see life from the eyes of our beloved, rather than from our own limited view. As JoyFuralle states above, certainly this "needs work" in my life. My greatest challenge is when I become distracted with my own hurts. What a missed opportunity there is then because, as I am wrapped up in myself, I miss an opportunity to participate in the life of another - which is the only way fulfillment can be reached. Since we are made in the image of a self-giving God, I know that I am never participating in that image when I am stuck inside myself. The Kingdom doesn't flourish there. But, when I come out of my self-centeredness and give myself away - I see that more life is created as a result of the shared encounter. There is opportunity every single day to grow in this way.

Living through, with, and in Love IS freedom. i love that.

LOVE has to be first, and the rest falls into place.

Dear God,
please help me to love a little more each today.
Thank you,
'your apple tree in the middle of the forest.'
