I thought it very odd. Adding the word "needless". And it made me think . . . Is there a difference between "anxiety" and "needless anxiety"? I think not.
Good point. But there may be a key difference. Generally speaking, anxiety has a negative connotation. But, depending on the context, anxiety is a normal and healthy reaction to an identifiable stressful situation.
Anxiety for the right reason is good. So, we do not need to be protected from all anxiety. Needless anxiety is not normal or healthy because it is a reaction to either a situation that does not exist or a perceived situation that does not exist. Needless anxiety is anxiety for no reason or the wrong reason. In the Gospel reading for October 4th, Martha's anxiety is for the wrong reason.
